Water

I can just imagine what it would have been like if Shabana and Nandita Das were there as Deepa Mehta had planned before all that controversy. It would have been mindblowing, but no doubt , current cast has done very well justice to it....The story is very very strong and has very much Bengali literature feel. Its my favorite form of Indian literature lately. Lisa Ray has done well but sorry to say that she doesn't look like a widow during early 1900s in India, she has an exotic model face which is too perfect to be seen as a beautiful traditional Indian widow. Its plot in 1930s with a background of rise of independence. Lot of times there is mention about Gandhiji and Raja Ram Mohan Roy. John Abraham is overwhelming. This man has got all it takes. He is very handsome, very talented and very sensitive! I can't believe that it is shot in Sri Lanka instead of Varanasi. The plight of widows in that period is shown very sensitively and the love story of Kalyani and Narayan is very delicate and subtle, almost reminds me of love stories by Tagore. Its very nicely made with lot of details and worth watching if you are into serious parallel cinemas.
